As CPI eConnect PDUs Hit the Market, Pleased Customers React

November 05, 2012

When Chatsworth Products introduced eConnect™ Power Distribution Units (PDUs) earlier this month, we worked hard to ensure our next generation of power management solutions would set a new standard for enterprise data centers.

eConnect Power Distribution UnitsBy providing a global offering of five unique PDU models, all featuring a low profile design that reduces airflow disruption, a high-threshold ambient air temperature rating of 149°F (65°C) and more than 160 standard configurations, we knew we were well on our way.

Combine that with UL Listing on all eConnect PDUs, easy installation thanks to tool-less mounting and a broad range of functionality that spans from basic connections to remote access with monitoring and switching capabilities on each individual outlet, and you have a recipe for prime power management.

And as CPI Sr. Product Manager for Power and Electronics, Anderson Hungria, definitively points out, “A lot of engineering, testing and attention to specific customer needs, like flexibility and thermal concerns, went into designing these PDUs.”

Speaking of those specific customer needs, we recently had the opportunity to hear from an early adopter of CPI’s eConnect PDUs, Sean Kliger, Supervisor of IT Architecture at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, located in Seattle, WA.

We asked Kliger his thoughts on why it was important for Fred Hutchinson to ultimately choose CPI’s eConnect PDUs and what specific factors about the new product line most appealed to the project needs and requirements.

Q: What primary feature(s) were you looking for when selecting new PDUs?

A: The ability to monitor temperature and humidity, radius authentication support, an ammeter, a mix of C13 and C19 outlets, and an IEC60309 plug were all necessary components.

Q: Which features in the eConnect product solution were of significant value to your organization?

A: Being able to spread the phases across the entire PDU – as opposed to having phase X, then Y, then Z – was a definite benefit. Additionally, the ability to daisy-chain the management interface of multiple PDUs, having breakers on the PDUs, and of course, the low profile design of the PDU itself.

Q: What’s the first thing you noticed about CPI eConnect PDUs that made them truly unique?

A: The low profile design, definitely.

Q: Did any other factors (outside the product features themselves) help influence your decision to choose CPI eConnect PDUs?

A: Having the ability to easily build and order a custom product was very important to us when selecting CPI for the project.

As you can see from the feedback above, not only does the new eConnect PDU line fulfill the most detailed of power management requirements, it does so by offering the kind of flexibility that only Chatsworth Products can provide.
